WELCOME to Mrs. Campf's Math Mania!
What is a blog?A blog (web log) consists of a log of personal events, thoughts, or concerns. Entries are read in reverse chronological order (most current to least current). Blogs are
used to chronicle events in one’s life that he/she wants to share with others. Blogs may be entirely text-based, but may also contain pictures, audio, and video clips used to further illustrate a personal journey. If a blog has a specific focus, the name of the blog will reflect this purpose – PhotoBlog, ArtLog, VLog, MP3Log, FashionBlog, TravelBlog, etc. A version of a blog that contains very short posts is called a MicroBlog.
How will this blog be used?Mrs. Campf's Math Mania blog will focus on bringing math into the real world. As the students learn about different math topics, they will be encouraged to make real-world connections through the blog. For example, when we study geometry, we will be on a hunt for geometric figures in our everyday lives. And, when we learn about statistics, we will post examples of statistics that we find in newspapers, the Internet, and on television.
Who gets to post here? This blog is open to everyone! If you see math in your everyday life, tell us about it. I will be using the site to post original topics and questions to guide your postings. I hope that students, siblings, parents, and even school system staff make use of this blog.
Third Grade Math TopicsKnowledge of Algebra, Patterns, and Functions - Students will algebraically represent, model, analyze, or solve mathematical or real-world problems involving patterns or functional relationships.
Knowledge of Geometry - Students will apply the properties of one-, two-, or three-dimensional geometric figures to describe, reason, or solve problems about shape, size, position, or motion of objects.
Knowledge of Measurement - Students will identify attributes, units, or systems of measurements or apply a variety of techniques, formulas, tools, or technology for determining measurements.
Knowledge of Statistics - Students will collect, organize, display, analyze, or interpret data to make decisions or predictions.
Knowledge of Probability - Students will use experimental methods or theoretical reasoning to determine probabilities to make predictions or solve problems about events whose outcomes involve random variation.
Knowledge of Number Relationships and Computation/Arithmetics - Students will describe, represent, or apply numbers or their relations or will estimate or compute using mental strategies, paper/pencil or technology.
