Geometry All Around Us!

In our second unit of study, we will learn about plane geometric figures - circles, triangles, quadrilaterals, pentagons, hexagons, and octagons.

Can you think of any of these shapes we see around us all the time? If so, add a comment to this blog describing the shape and where you would see it.

I'll start....
At each corner, I see a STOP SIGN. The Stop Sign is in the shape of an octagon. It has eight sides and all the sides are of equal length. The figure is closed so it is considered a geometric figure. Since the sides are all the same length, it is called a Regular Octagon.

Knowledge of Geometry
- Students will apply the properties of one-, two-, or three-dimensional geometric figures to describe, reason, or solve problems about shape, size, position, or motion of objects.

Love this idea, Judy! Your blog really encourages writing about mathematics, and I like the use of the image to illustrate that geometric shapes can be found all around us.
